‘Vision of Lake District at stake ‘ in legal case
A charity has suppose a “ vision of the Lake District trial for nature and mass ” live at stake in a legal challenge over a suggest tourist attraction .
Friend of the Lake District said the planned zip wire at Elterwater Quarry would “ need us a pace closer to a Lake District of noise , chaos and degraded landscape ” .
A judicial review hearing into final year ‘s decision to grant the strategy planning permission is taking place on Wednesday at the High Court .
Adventure tourism firm Zip World previously order it would tend the attraction in a “ sensitive and sympathetic fashion ” .
The proposal would allow visitors to explore a cavern using zip wires and watch platform , accord to planning paper .
Developers say tourist would cost able to learn about the history of the target and the slate industry .
But Friends of the Lake District said it would attract also much traffic to the “ tranquil ” area and campaign parking problem .
Zip World make produced a travel design to elevate public transport and cycling to reach the site .
‘Noise and chaos ‘
Friend of the Lake District brought the legal challenge , arguing the Lake District National Park Authority ( LDNPA ) “ neglect to recognise the impact on the tranquillity of the area ” when it present design permission .
The charity ‘s CEO Michael Hill state : “ If the ruling do go against us , it will take us a pace closer to a Lake District of noise , chaos and degraded landscape . ”
He contrast that scenario with a “ sight of a Lake District run for nature and people , with landscape that cost tranquil ” .
The court could force the LDNPA to reconsider its conclusion .
The bureau decline to point out prior to the hearing , which cost taking position in Manchester .
Zip World and the target ‘s owner Burlington Stone do not react to requests for comment .
Zip World previously order the attraction could serve preserve “ this unique part of Lake District ‘s heritage ” and it would run the site “ in a sensitive and sympathetic manner ” .
