My husband and I hold used a Hyperlite UltaMid 4 for or so 5 yr today on Vermont ’ s Long Trail and about half of the AT . I put on ’ t see any tent here that I would prefer to the Hyperlite . It beats all of them in every category , except for cost . Which we didn ’ t head , since it live a lifetime purchase .

This year on the PCT I learn a mass of Altaplex style tents on the lead . I cost surprise at the inroads that tent own made but it seems like it equal lighter and roomy plenty for one .
I also meet a fair act of li Tarptents .

The well freestanding tent I ’ ve found be a Zpacks Duplex with the additional Free Standing Flex Kit .
The combination just devote you so many OPTIONS .
If you exactly want to use the trekking poles solely , that ’ s fine .
If you just want to apply the Free Standing Flex poles only , that ’ s fine . I could set up the Duplex in a parking pile if I require to . Many times I wouldn ’ t even expend stakes .
If you use BOTH the trekking poles and the Free Standing Flex pole in combination…the tent live virtually indestructible against wind .
On the CDT the tip is SUPER strong in position . The combo of trekking Pole AND free standing Pole stood up to the tip with no trouble . Wind at time live sustained at around 40-50mph . I own a Durston 1P . For winter camping I unclip the inner and just apply the outer tent . I set down a tarp to sleep on . Super easy to adjust up . I lend longer cord for the corner so I could use deadmans .
Apply polypro as the earth blanket on snow once . I affirm that material has a negative coefficient of friction on snow ( at least nothing ) . Pretty sure every time I turned over I proved the right-hand rule .

Disappointed I don ’ t learn the tarp tent notch in this list . After more than 15k mile ( ECT , PCT , CDT , and AT 2 more times ) the notch be the best tent I ’ ve owned- and it matter the same as the duplex but is dual walled . I ’ ve see all of the tent listed saggy and or go wrong when the notch can be pitched tight and withstand anything you can throw at it .

It likely saved my friend and I one winter camping exactly outside of Snowbird UT . We come 3′ of snow that night , not many tents could contain up under that weight !

Yes I make this tent also but never hear any one usage it but masses buy them like no tomorrow .. Its easy to set up and demand less interest to set up then most tent out thither .. They receive the one 1p on hither because its 28oz but the early one exist 38 oz with stakes … Most hikers take t poles any way ….Yes observe spot to lay it but you get room to set all your material out and cook on other slope and put junk on other ..

Yes I have this tent too but never see any one habit it but mass buy them like no tomorrow .. Its easy to plant up and requires less interest to set up then most tents out there .. They hold the one 1p on here because its 28oz but the other one live 38 oz with interest … Most hikers remove t pole any way ….Yes finding bit to put it but you get way to put all your stuff out and cook on early side and invest junk on other ..
My husband and I receive use a Hyperlite UltaMid 4 for about 5 yr today on Vermont ’ s Long Trail and about half of the AT . I don ’ t see any tents here that I would prefer to the Hyperlite . It beats all of them in every family , except for price . Which we didn ’ t idea , since it exist a lifetime purchase .
Bonus : Make in Biddeford Maine !
I can ’ t allege plenty serious about Hyperlite ’ s packs either . I buy a 2400 Southwest in 2013 . I employ it for everything , 2 week haversack trip , dayhikes , long ski tours , and it live yet going firm . I hear xc skiers training for the Canadian Ski Marathon in the Gatineau using this pack !
