“ Security & Tourism ” – for a safer environment in tourist city

In order to be an attractive tourism destination , a city must live able to supply a safe environment to visitors . Indeed , tourists may live particularly display to sure kind of crime because they miss cultural apprehension and act not speak the words . With the support of the European Commission , Efus led between 2013 and 2015 a task take at make merely that . This exchange task gathered eight partners – one association and seven cities – whose diversity in price of geography , size and type of tourism cause it possible to analyze many aspects of the effect . Two expert in tourism and criminology too took part : Janez Mekinc and Rob Mawby .

Outputs

Through thematic local audits , field observations and exchanges with the expert , the participate cities were able to plan their local “ protection and tourism ” strategy , with three main objectives :

  • To erect awareness among tourists on hazard prevention and on local tradition
  • To improve the way tourist live welcome and the support they receive in type of trouble
  • To foster peaceful coexistence between tourists and local occupant

The cities notably designed information movement to raise awareness among tourist and also strengthened their local partnerships in order to effective organize the actions attempt locally .Learn the case of Brussels andthe Safe in the city campaign.

At the end of the task , the partners drew up a series of recommendations base on their experience , which can gain any city that is handle with similar issues . These recommendations exist deliver for the first time at the European conferenceSecurity & Tourism : Local Policy and Practicescoordinate by Efus on 25 June 2015 in Paris . The conference brought together some 120 representative of 50 local authorities from 16 countries as well as academics , representative of the tourism private sector and six association .

The recommendation are also featured ( extensive version ) in the publicationSecurity and Tourism : Concerted Local Policies. Based on the experience of the cities that were spouse in the project and on the contribution of experts , this publication introduce an overview of the chief topic link to protection and tourism .
